Taser drawn on Elba man (06/30/2013)
By Chris Rogers

Scott Allen Ball, 45, of Elba, allegedly told Winona County Sheriff’s deputies he was ready to die after they stopped him for driving after cancellation of his license, inimical to public safety. Deputies arrested Ball outside Elba at around 7:43 p.m. on Wednesday, June 26, and are referring him for driving after cancellation, theft of a lawn mower, and probation violation. Ball told deputies he was allowed to drive the utility vehicle because it was farm vehicle, according to the report. Deputies said that Ball changed rapidly from being very cooperative to very angry, and they noticed the odor of alcohol on his breath. According to the report, when asked to provide a preliminary breath test, Ball became furious and allegedly told the deputy if the deputy wanted to arrest him, the deputy would need to call for back up because he was ready to die. Ball allegedly tore his shirt off and appeared ready to fight the deputy. The deputy drew his Taser and subsequently arrested Ball without major incident. Deputies reported that during the arrest Ball admitted to stealing a lawn mower than had been reported stolen. Ball’s probation restricts him from consuming alcohol, Sheriff’s Department officials noted.
