Sophie Gray (06/30/2013)
From: Gloria and Rollie Salling

Last week, we made one of our many visits to the Winona Area Humane Society, this time to donate some books to their library. One of our friends that volunteers there, who knows that we are willing to adopt older cats, wanted to show us a ten-year-old sweetheart. We were not interested in adopting at this time. In 2003, we adopted a brother and sister, Morrey and Malley, at nine years old. Morrey died at 17 and Malley at 18. In February, 2012, four days after Malley passed away, we adopted our Buffy, eight years old, whom we now have. We were introduced to Sophie Gray, who was surrendered to the Humane Society with a three-year-old because of the previous owner’s health problems. A week after they were surrendered, the young one died unexpectedly and Sophie got a little depressed. She’s OK now and a beautiful lover of a cat. We fell for her hook, line and sinker, and adopted her the next day. Well, our Buffy, who has become queen of our household over the past 16 months, decided she wasn’t going to share her throne with another cat. Six days after we brought Sophie home, we reluctantly had to return Sophie to the Humane Society.

Most people do not want to adopt an older pet. In the case of Sophie Gray, they will be missing a lot of love and a faithful companion for many years. If you live alone, especially if you are a senior citizen(s), Sophie Gray will brighten your life with unconditional love, in return for just a little TLC. I’m not sure if there will be an adoption fee, but if there is, we’ll pay it; just tell them to call Gloria and Rollie.
