  (ARCHIVES)Back to Current
Legislative update (07/03/2013)
From: State Senator

Jeremy Miller

Many local communities throughout the state of Minnesota were severely impacted by storm damage and flash flooding following heavy rains and strong winds from June 20 thru 23. Over the last week, each county affected by these storms has completed and turned in their preliminary damage assessments to the Homeland Security Emergency Management Team (HSEM).

Based on damage assessments from the 22 counties affected, Minnesota has met the minimum $7.266 million threshold to request that the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) send teams to conduct State-Local Preliminary Damage Assessments (PDAs) for the Public Assistance Program. These teams will survey the damage to determine whether Minnesota is eligible for FEMA assistance. A letter requesting FEMA’s assistance has been sent and it is our hope that FEMA will begin sending teams during the week of July 8.

Fillmore, Houston and Winona counties are among the 22 counties that have reported damage related to the June 2013 storms and have been included in this request. Other counties include: Benton, Big Stone, Carver, Douglas, Fairbault, Hennepin, Kandiyohi, McLeod, Mille Lacs, Pope, Ramsey, Renville, Sibley, Stearns, Stevens, Swift, Traverse, Wilkin and Wright.

As always, if you have any questions or if you require any assistance please contact my office at 651-296-5649 or sen.jeremy.miller@senate.mn and we will be happy to do what we can to be helpful.
