ERT stakeout ends peacefully (07/03/2013)
By Chris Rogers

Jason Lee Jonsgaard, 37, of Winona, was arrested for felony domestic assault strangulation, false imprisonment, fifth-domestic assault causing harm, fifth-degree domestic assault causing harm, and making terroristic threats on Sunday, June 30, at 5:52 a.m. Winona Police Officers responded to a report of domestic assault by an adult female. The woman said that she and Jonsgaard were arguing at his residence on the 1000 block of East Seventh Street when she tried to leave. According to the report, Jonsgaard allegedly choked her, and later put a shotgun in his mouth, threatening to kill himself. He told her if she called the police he would be dead before they arrived, the woman told police. The Emergency Response Team (ERT) staked out the residence, but after hours of failed attempts to contact Jonsgaard, he answered a phone call from police negotiators at 8:50 a.m. Minutes later, he came out of the residence and was arrested. Police officials said they were relieved the stakeout ended without any shots being fired.
