Frahm, Delmar S. (07/07/2013)
Frahm, Delmar S. ‘Speed’

Delmar S. “Speed” Frahm, age 84, of Winona, died Tuesday, July 2, 2013, at Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center, La Crosse, Wis. In 2009, Delmar was diagnosed with progress supranuclear palsy.

Delmar Stanley was born February 28, 1929 in Winona, Minn., to John and Adelia (Grapentine) Frahm. On November 18, 1950, he married Esther E. Rott at Ridgeway, Minn., and she preceded him in death August 5, 1985. He was employed at Froedert Malt Co., Winona for 42 years, retiring in 1991. He served in the U.S. Army in Korea as an airborne paratrooper. He was a longtime member of St. Matthew’s Ev. Lutheran Church, Winona, serving as an usher for 70 years and assisting with the weekly money counting. He was a life member and past Post Commander of the American Legion Leon J. Wetzel Post 9, Winona, and a past member of the burial honor guard detail.

When Delmar was a young child, he would chase his sister, Beverly, catch her and make her do the dishes all the time and because of this she gave him the nickname “Speed.” While growing up he and his two brothers were proud to call themselves ‘river rats.’ He liked dancing, and with help, he danced the day before he died. Over the years, he enjoyed visits from family and friends and he will be missed.

He is survived by his three children: Richard (Connie) Frahm, Judi Frahm, and Karen (Michael) Stutzka, all of Winona; two grandchildren: Jennifer (Chad) Woyczik and their children Lauren and Justin, and Amy (Jason) Batterson and their daughter, Megan; a brother, Allan (Elaine) Frahm, Rochester, Minn.; sisters: Jean (Thomas) Donovan, Onalaska, Wis., and Carol (David) Zimmerman, La Crescent, Minn.; a special grand dog, Emma; and nieces, nephews and other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Esther, brother, Kenneth Frahm, and sister, Beverly Suffrins.

Services to remember Delmar were held July 5, 2013, at St. Matthew’s Ev. Lutheran Church, Winona, with Rev. Paul F. Welke officiating. Interment was at Woodlawn Cemetery, Winona, with military burial honors provided by American Legion Leon J. Wetzel Post 9.

Casket bearers were members of the American Legion Post 9.

Memorials may be directed to the American Legion Post 9 burial detail.

Words of sympathy or remembrance may be left at www.fawcett-junkerfuneralhome.com. Services entrusted to Fawcett-Junker Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Winona, Minn.
