Start your day by paddling on a “Sunrise Canoe” program beginning at 6:15 am Saturday, July 13. The tour will lead you through refuge backwaters and may last approximately 1 ˝ hours. Paddlers are asked to arrive fifteen minutes prior to launch time at the refuge boat ramp. Parties with children must bring a lifejacket for their child and children under 16 must be accompanied by an adult. Registration is required by calling 608-539-2311, ext 6. Please meet the park rangers at Kiep’s Island boat ramp.
Come out and celebrate the beauty of prairie blooms on Friday, July 19th and Saturday, July 20th! Join us for an “Evening in the Prairie” with a prairie walk. The evening walk will be held on Friday, July 19, at 7:30pm and will meet at the Refuge Office flagpole. Participants will need to have walking shoes and may bring a flashlight. The walk may last for two hours and is a prelude to “Prairie Day” which will be held on Saturday, July 20 at the refuge.
On Saturday, July 20, Trempealeau National Wildlife Refuge invites the public to “Prairie Day” beginning with an early morning bird walk at 7:00am, and other scheduled activities and guided walks beginning at 9:00 am. The event will consist of guided prairie and bird hikes, craft demonstrators, and children activities. The event is free and open to all ages.
