Hannon’s job evaluation positive (07/14/2013)
By Jen Burris

Superintendent Scott Hannon received what could be his final performance review from the Winona Area Public School Board, which ended in a round of applause for his 41 years of service at Winona Area Public Schools.

In a session closed to the public in order to evaluate Hannon's performance, the board discussed the vision, mission, and goals of the School Board, said Board Chairman, Mohamed Elhindi. The board then reviewed the topics of the closed session for the public, which included year-round school, study and research, hiring quality staff, and good professional development. “The professional learning communities (PLC), in their first year of implementation, that’s been going well,” Elhindi explained of teacher groups that meet to improve student achievement efforts. Other important goals of the School Board include the use of data for decision-making, and the use of technology to improve teaching and learning.

In regard to Superintendent Hannon’s review, Elhindi had many positive things to say. Hannon has been “financially responsible, and not just responsible, accountable,” Elhindi noted. With the help of Finance Officer Dan Pyan and Hannon, the budget was reduced by $525,000, and the process was clean, according to Elhindi.

“In summary, the board agreed that Dr. Hannon had worked very hard to achieve many of the [board’s] goals and move us forward,” Elhindi explained.

In response to the positive comments, Hannon said, “Thank you for continuing to support me for the last two and half years. It’s just a pleasure coming to work every day,” he said. “I’m blessed to have this job.”
