Dorothy J. Chuchna, 92, of Rockford, Ill., passed away Wednesday, July 10, 2013. Prior to moving to Rockford to be closer to her son and family, Dorothy lived in Winona for 77 years. Dorothy lived a full and spirited life until 90 years of age, when she experienced the first of a series of strokes.
Born Sept. 26, 1920, in La Crosse, Wis., to John J. and Sophia (Kleinschmidt) Meyers. Dorothy moved to Winona at the age of three, attended St. Stanislaus Kostka school and went on to graduate from Winona Senior High School in 1938.
She married Chester T. Chuchna on Jan. 20, 1944. Early in her life, Dorothy worked at Conrad Fur Company and Vulcan Manufacturing. Dorothy enjoyed a 31-year-career at the College of St. Teresa as the secretary to the president and retired from the College of St. Teresa in 1985. Dorothy was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and its funeral committee in Winona and Holy Family Catholic Church in Rockford. Memberships in Winona included the Saint Anne Hospice Auxiliary and Winona County Historical Society. Dorothy will long be remembered for the meticulous care she provided to her lawn and home in Winona.
Survivors include son, Thomas (Diane) Chuchna of Rockford; grandsons, Christopher (Renee) Chuchna of Rockford, Nicholas Chuchna and Taylor Chuchna, both of Chicago, Ill.; great-grandson, Quentin Chuchna; sister, Helen Rose of Tucson, Ariz.; sister in-law, Florence Kulas of Winona; and brother-in-law, William (Dorothy B.) Chuchna Jr. Predeceased by husband, Chester, in 1987; infant son; daughter, Suzanne Chuchna in 1999; and brother, Donald Meyers in 1994.
