On freedom (07/14/2013)
From: T.M. Schoewe

In this second week after the 4th of July you might still hear words like “I am proud to be an American!” We in the USA are proud of our revolution, of our freedoms, and rights listed in the first ten amendments to our Constitution. But along with these rights, there is unfortunately no Bill of Responsibilities for citizens to follow.

Now please note there is a powerful theme running through the epistles of the New Testament which speaks of our freedom, our FREEDOM in Christ; how through the birth, life, suffering and death, and resurrection of Christ we have been given the promise of eternal life and are free from death and powerful Satan.

You know, our Christian identity does give us a Bill of Responsibilities! We are free boys and girls and men and women, and we are to be servants to one another! First Corinthians 9:19 says “Though I am free and belong to no man, I make myself a slave to everyone to win as many as possible.”

Our spiritual freedom from sin, death, and hell gives us a great message to share with our neighbors and fellow citizens who are still trapped in guilt and fear. As Jesus Christ the Lord of all made Himself a servant to all, we are called to that same mind set.

America’s political revolutionary war was a great leap forward in democracy, for the entire world, not just us Americans. But as Christians speak and live the gospel of Christ, we can help to bring about an even greater form of government, the Lordship of Jesus Christ! Let’s do it!

P.S. We wish to thank the Editor of the Post, Fran Edstrom for her sections in the paper on “Independence” in the Wednesday (3rd of July) edition. It was a great review and something we all needed to hear! And learn about! We are not only not surprised about her being the “Person of the Day” for the Winona County Fair this past Thursday, but were very much pleased to hear that! Thank you Fran and the Winona Post
