Geraldine Emily Riska Halling Fritz, age 69, of Missouri Valley, Iowa, passed away on Sunday, July 14, 2013, at Lake Winona Manor after battling a very long illness. She was born August 26, 1943, to Francis and Emily (nee Schulz) Riska in Winona, Minn. She married John Halling in 1967, and they later divorced. She married Roger John Fritz in Winona in October, 1990. She is survived by her children: Billy (Kathy) Halling, Peggy (Barry) Coleman, John Halling, Molly (Randy) Hauser, Bobbie Christensen, Audrey (Tom) House, John (Avie) Fritz and daughter-in-law Tammy Fritz; grandchildren: Joseph and Michael Halling, Ethan, Bryant, Michaela (Mickey), and Holden Coleman, Breanna Halling, Eva Hauser, Amber Christensen, Caleb and Nathaniel House, Paige and Riley Fritz, and Sophie Fritz; as well as many nieces, nephews, relatives, friends and her best friend, Chewy Baka Fritz, her pet dog.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Emily Riska; brother, Kenneth Riska and sister, Carol Marsolek; children, Marty Johnson, Anita Fritz and Michael Fritz; grandchildren, Dominic Halling and Luke Fritz.
Gerri enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren. She loved to travel, and especially enjoyed Myrtle Beach and Hawaii. She worked many years as a medical secretary. In her quiet moments, she enjoyed reading, quilting, sewing, and crocheting. She also loved her horses and dogs.
She will be remembered with love for her awesome sense of humor and her no-nonsense way of dealing with life. “Who has more fun than us?”
Funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday, July 17, 2013, at Watkowski-Mulyck Funeral Home. The Reverend Tony Hansen of Goodview Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church will officiate.
Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday, July 17, 2013, from 9 a.m. until time of the service.
Gerri will be laid to rest in a private family ceremony at a later date.
