I am responding to the article entitled “Silent no more – but still ignored” run in another paper on Sunday, July 14. The authors of this article, Representatives Mandy Wright and Chris Taylor, assert many things. They spoke about sexual assaults and high risk pregnancies. They talk about “bills that place our personal decisions in the hands of politicians,” while playing politics themselves with the issue.
Abortion advocates have had things their way for 40 years. Abortions are still allowed at any time during nine months of pregnancy for any reason at all. It is common practice by pro-abortion people, when arguing their side, to use sexual assaults and danger to the life of the woman as the reason for abortion. These above-mentioned reasons cited account for less than 10% of all abortions performed. They never mention the baby that will die. Would they be willing to support a bill that would outlaw abortion in all cases except in the case of sexual assault and for cases when the mother's life is endangered?
I oppose the assertion by Representative Wright and Taylor that abortion is “a fundamental right.” Abortion is a barbaric practice where we are allowed to legally kill the most innocent people in our society, our unborn children. Kermit Gosnell will be in prison for the rest of his life for killing babies born alive after botched abortions, and manslaughter for the woman he killed doing the procedure. The revelations that came out during Gosnell's trial were hardly a surprise. It is not a big leap from abortions done in the third trimester to babies born alive.
I know that women suffer disproportionately in our society, but even the babies conceived in rape are innocent. Abortion does not solve the problem; it just compounds the violence. For those who are not ready to be parents, there are plenty of qualified couples waiting to adopt who will love those children as their own. Abortion is not the answer.
