WH supports Habitat for Humanity Women Build (07/21/2013)
Winona Health is proud to sponsor a team for the Habitat for Humanity Women Build. You’re invited to a pulled pork dinner at the Eagles Club, 201 E 4th Street in Winona on July 18th from 5-7:30. Pulled pork dinner cost is $7, dine in or takeout is available. Dinner includes: pulled pork sandwich, beans and coleslaw. Dessert will be available for an additional donation.

Raffle tickets for the Women Build Quilt Raffle will also be available for $5 each.

Team leader Polly Peterson said “We are really excited to be a part of the Women Build project with Habitat for Humanity Winona-Fillmore Counties. It is a great cause and we can see firsthand the amazing results we can produce for our community by working together. Each dollar raised with this dinner will help us build here in the Winona area with families that need our help. We think the A Brush With Kindness program is great too because it helps us impact so many families with the work we are doing!” The Winona Health team goal is to raise $5,000 for the Women Build project.

A Brush with Kindness is a new program of Habitat for Humanity Winona-Fillmore Counties which offers exterior home improvements to low income homeowners. This unique program enables Habitat to reach out to the community in an effort to sustain and improve existing homes. Volunteer teams work to improve the condition of homes by painting, landscaping, and minor exterior repairs at minimal costs to homeowners who would be unable to complete home repairs on their own. Able-bodied homeowners are encouraged to work alongside the volunteers in a cooperative effort.

The Habitat model makes these home repairs and services affordable to low-income homeowners by using donated labor and materials (when available), and charging no interest on an affordable repayment schedule.
