The Fountain City River Players and the City of Fountain City sponsor their 24th summer musical production - Hairspray! - July 24-28, with a 7:30 p.m. curtain nightly and a 2 p.m. curtain on the 28th. The production by Mark O’Dommell and Thomas Meehan with music by Marc Shaiman and lyrics by Scott Wittman and Marc Shaiman, is based on the New Line Cinema Film written and directed by John Waters, and will be performed in the Fountain City Auditorium, 42 North Main Street, Fountain City, Wis. (an air-conditioned facility).
Audience members will meet Tracy Turnblad, the little teen with the big heart, who fights intolerance and injustice whenever she encounters it and finds love along the way. The eccentric characters who make up her world are memorable and funny and provide a rock ‘n roll theatrical experience.
The artistic staff consists of Judee Brone, director and choreographer; Jessica Hosch, vocal and pit director; with production assistance from Libby Crum, Michael Opiola, Sadie Read, Rachel Stoltman, and Jen and David Tepovich. Technical co-directors are Jen and David Tepovich; graphic design, poster and playbill design is by Hayley Fast; original scene design is by Judee Brone; props, Mark Roeckers, Ed and Rachel Stoltman and Libby Crum. Design for set build is Jason Passow and Jen and David Tepovich.
The cast consists of Rebecca Di Venere, Mark Roeckers, Michael Opiola, Tegan Blank, Cheryl Polachek, Samantha Krage, Matt Krage, Andrew Zimmerman, Beth Parlin, Debbie Berhow, Addi Sim, Lacey Korb, Andrew Jones, Marijean Wisted, Garrett Bowling, Mary Hansel-Parlin, Kennedy Kolaas, Brett Douglas, Jeannie Kortas, Shae Alcamo, Colton Swanson, Katia Bolduan, Marcel Brown, Mikayla Brown, Molly Corcoran-Sanders, and Katelyn Douglas.
Costume design is by Judee Brone, Jessica Hosch, Addi Sim and Lacey Korb, the FCRP costume department, Cotter High School costume shop and all cast members. Makeup and wigs are by cast members and friends of the Players. Judee Brone, Janet La Duke, Hayley Fast, Jason Passow and Janice Brone are in charge of publicity. Tickets are $10 for adults, and $8 for 12 and under. Groups of 20 or more get a discount. Tickets are available at Hardt’s Music and Audio and Midtown Foods in Winona and the Kwik Trip and Waumandee State Bank in Fountain City.
