WPD hires new officer (07/24/2013)
By Chris Rogers
The newest officer of the Winona Police Department (WPD) was sworn in at city hall on Monday. Officer Les Ladewig, 29, of Rushford, is a fourth-generation law enforcement officer who served as a patrol deputy for the Fillmore County Sheriff’s Department before opting for a city of Winona badge. “I knew a lot of the guys here. It’s a great department with a little more advancement and a little more fun,” Ladewig said when asked why he wanted to serve with the WPD.

After hiring Ladewig, the WPD has filled nearly all of the openings left by retiring officers. Sergeant Gary Hoeppner announced that he will retire at the end of the month, after 26 years with the department. Officer Steve Dzurick retired in April after 13 years with the department.
