GRSF ‘Concert on the Green’ Friday (07/24/2013)
The Great River Shakespeare Festival will host a Winona Sampler Talent and Bomba de Luz to perform this weekend outside the Winona State University’s Performing Arts Center. Each “Concert on the Green” will begin at 6:00 PM. The Winona Sampler Talent will play on Friday, July 26th and Bomba de Luz will play on Saturday, July 27th. The line-up for the Winona Sampler Talent will include Aric Sampson performing vocals and guitar, followed by the premier a cappella choir, Vocal Point, from GET High School. Admission to both events is free, and food will be available for purchase.

Aric Sampson is a singer/songwriter from Trempealeau, WI. Son of accomplished banjo player and banjo bridge builder Rick Sampson, Aric took to the guitar at age 4 and by 9 was performing publicly. In addition to vocals Aric performs with equal ease on guitar, mandolin, bass, and drums. Aric’s songwriting blends poetry and raw emotion against a melodic backdrop.

Vocal Point is a 16 member, auditioned, vocal a cappella group. The group was one of six selected to represent the entire state of Wisconsin at the semi-finals of the World Choir Games. This prestigious festival holds the title of the largest singing festival in the world, bringing together over seventy countries. Students involved in Vocal Point practice three times a week and perform around twenty times over the span of each school year.

Lead singer of Bomba de Luz, Lydia Liza Hoglund, has a powerful voice well beyond her years. While many songs began with soothing, open-voiced guitar they quickly escalate to an explosive, heavy-strummed block of sound. It is clear that these tunes could also stand by themselves with just an acoustic guitar and vocals, but the band’s dynamic interludes really set up the feel-good, jam-rock sound that makes Bomba de Luz.

Visit www.grsf.org/FREE-CONCERTS for a complete season line-up with additional information provided for each band to perform every Friday and Saturday night.
