Sherman, Jane (07/28/2013)
Jane Sherman, 92, of Winona, Minn., passed away peacefully in the presence of family on July 23, 2013.

Born Jane M. Valentine on her familyís Rollingstone, Minn., farm, one of ten children born to Edward and Frances (Callahan) Valentine. United in marriage to John H. Sherman on November 4, 1939.

Preceded in death by her parents; husband, John H. Sherman; daughter, Suzanne M. Schaufenbil; son-in-law, Charles D. Swenson; brothers Donald, James, Dr. Rodney and Patrick Valentine; sisters: Ruth Guentzkow, Kathleen Daering, Alice Strupp and Aileen Ebinger.

Survived by daughter, Sheila J. Swenson; sons: John V. (Susan), Michael F. (Darlene), Timothy P. (Margaret), Joseph P. (Carol), Daniel E. (Maureen) and James B. (Allison); son-in-law, Anthony J. Schaufenbil (Carolyn); sister, Florence Sistini; as well as seventeen grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, two sisters-in-law and many nieces and nephews.

A lifelong resident of the Winona area, Jane gave freely of herself as a volunteer in many organizations and causes, including as an active parishioner of St. Maryís and St. Paulís Catholic Churches, Girl Scout leader, and counselor with Birthright. Janeís hobbies included gardening, bowling, bird-watching and perhaps most of all, storytelling. Jane was always open to a good joke and possessed a prodigious vocabulary due to her love of reading and working crossword puzzles. No stranger to hard work, Jane raised eight children while serving as office manager for her husband Johnís business, Economy Plumbing & Heating Company.

A Mass of Christian burial to celebrate Janeís life will be held on Saturday, July 27, 2013, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Maryís Catholic Church, Rev. Jim Berning officiating. A visitation is arranged to take place at 9:30 a.m. in the Visitation Commons of St. Maryís Church.

Janeís grandchildren will serve as casket bearers.

Memorial gifts may be directed to St. Maryís Catholic Church or to the donorís choice.
