I attended the Winona County Planning Commission information session on August 8. I appreciated the Planning Department presentation and the effort to inform the public about the zoning amendments that could be such a change from the current ordinance.
While I understand the rationale that there were questions asked that couldnít be answered on the spot, the second portion of the meeting where questions were taken but not responded to, was in many ways very unsatisfactory in making people feel their questions and concerns were being addressed.
Even though responses to at least some of the questions will be posted on the Planning Dept. website, that is not a format that everyone accesses and doesnít really take the place of a conversation. It may make people feel like their concerns arenít being taken seriously.
I would really encourage the Planning Commission and Planning Department to host another informational evening on August 15 addressing the questions raised, rather than move to voting on a recommendation regarding these amendments. To do otherwise gives the appearance of undue haste and of ignoring the public.
