Deputies: father assaulted son (08/14/2013)
By Chris Rogers

Deputies arrested Larry Darnell Mosley, 25, of Minnesota City, for second-degree assault with a weapon and fifth-degree domestic assault causing harm after he allegedly hit his 14-year-old son repeatedly with a belt. At 11 a.m. on Sunday, August 11, deputies responded to a report of a disturbance at Mosley’s residence. Mosley reportedly came out to talk to deputies with a belt in his hand and told them he was “just giving a whooping,” according to the report. Mosley confirmed that he was hitting the boy with the belt on the legs, deputies said. The boy had welts, according to the report. Deputy Chief Ron Ganrude explained that generally speaking, spanking children by hand on the buttocks is considered acceptable, but corporal punishment with a belt, paddle, or stick, or hitting that leaves bruises is generally not acceptable.
