One injured in tractor rollover (08/14/2013)
At approximately 12:02 p.m. on August 9, a 911 call was received at the Buffalo County Dispatch Center of a farm tractor rollover. The caller advised that a man was pinned under a tractor along a side hill located on Yeager Valley Road, 1/2 mile from Hwy. 88 in the Town of Waumandee. On arrival of emergency responders, it was found that Gerald Salwey, 73, of Waumandee, Wis., had been turning his tractor and field digger around on a steep side hill on the farm. The tractor, which did not have a roll bar or cab, overturned, pinning Salwey under the tractor. Extrication was done by fire units, along with a local construction company, Reglin & Hesch, front end loader with assistance from Snapper’s Towing in order to free Salwey from under the tractor. Salwey received possible life-threatening injuries and was flown to St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester by Mayo One helicopter. Also assisting at the scene were the Buffalo County Sheriff’s Office, the Waumandee Fire Dept., the Waumandee First Responders, Tri-Community Fire Rescue, and Scenic Valley Ambulance.
