Double standard (08/14/2013)
From: Jamie Stier

There was an article a month or so ago in the Winona Post about NSA spying abuses. The article was spot on in relation to the dangerous implications of government spying on its citizens. The double standard comes into play in an article written last Sunday. It is related to the whistle blower Edward Snowden. How can one write about threats to democracy and overreach of government spying then in another article degrade the person that bought these abuses to light. Whistler blowers shine an important light into these government abuses. If we ever hope to control the powers of the government in this case spying, people need to come forward to let these abuses be known. It is a sad day when a fellow American is condemned for standing up for the rights and freedoms of all. More people like this need to stand up and demand a government that at one time was of the people, by the people and for the people.

Ed. Note:

The articles referenced in this letter were an editorial and a column on the opinion pages.
