Thanks largely to generous private donors, the city of Winona will resurface and widen the Lake Park bike path next month. The city announced that it received the final donations towards its $280,000 fund drive just before its deadline this week. In total, roughly $384,000 in private donations was given to the city for the project. Another $109,000 in city funds initially budgeted for improvements to the Levee bike path were diverted to the project.
Work on the bike path will be done in segments. The entire project will be completed by the end of September, according to city staff.
If the fund drive had not been successful, city staff members said they were prepared to continue with plans to designate Lake Park as an industrial development district and borrow for the project without voter approval.
