Santos Gabriel Cuaquehua-Itzacahua, 26, of no fixed address, allegedly had sexual intercourse with a child under 12 years old in October 2010 in Eleva, Wis. The Trempealeau County Sheriff’s Office’s search for Cuaquehua-Itzacahua came to end on Wednesday, August 14, when Winona County Sheriff’s deputies arrested him at a farm outside of Altura.
Cuaquehua-Itzacahua was called upon to act as a Spanish-English interpreter to assist deputies who were responding to a bar fight at Pooter’s Bar in Altura at 1:58 a.m. on Wednesday. As deputies were sorting out the reported fight, one of the bartenders told a deputy that he thought he recognized Cuaquehua-Itzacahua from a wanted poster posted to Facebook by the Trempealeau County Sheriff’s Office. The deputy confirmed that Cuaquehua-Itzacahua matched warrant photos from Trempealeau County.
At 7:43 p.m. on the same day, deputies went to the area farm where Cuaquehua-Itzacahua was living. Cuaquehua-Itzacahua offered a Mexican identification card, which deputies believe is false or not his own, but deputies were able to match Cuaquehua-Itzacahua’s scars and moles to the Trempealeau County photos. He was arrested without incident and was extradited to the Trempealeau County Jail where he is awaiting prosecution.
Cuaquehua-Itzacahua faces two charges of first-degree sexual assault of a child under 12 and one charge of first-degree sexual conduct with a child under 13.
