Sometimes we need to let go, even to things we hold most dear.
I feel it’s time to have a wake (no pun intended) for the old Winona bridge.
With the money we save by not “rebuilding” the old bridge, we can have the aesthetically pleasing structure we all want.
The new bridge I believe should still be of two lanes. Trucks passing through Winona would be directed to Mississippi River Drive with as few stops as possible. Heavy sand and grain trucks should not be permitted to rumble through the historic heart of the city.
As the bridge is under construction, the original will of course be monitored for integrity.
The new bridge should feature welcoming information for visitors. Perhaps directing them to the Visit Winona information center. Right now the approach into Winona is not very welcoming. Our new bridge will afford us the opportunity to welcome visitors properly.
