Man faces assault charges (08/21/2013)
By Chris Rogers

Witnesses said that Lance Paul Coburn, 28, of Whitehall, Wis., choked a woman with both hands and dragged her by the neck from a vehicle, across a sidewalk, and into a Goodview residence, according a complaint filed by the Winona County Attorney’s Office. Coburn faces felony charges for domestic assault by strangulation and stalking, as well as misdemeanor charges of domestic assault causing fear, domestic assault causing harm, and obstructing the legal process. He could face 13 years in prison, if convicted.

At 7:39 p.m. on Sunday, August 18, a third-party witness called Goodview Police officers to a residence in Goodview. The witness reported hearing a woman yell, “Get off of me!” and saw Coburn drag her by the throat, with both his hands around her neck, out of a vehicle and into a house.

Coburn denied any violence and swore at officers when they told him he was under arrest, police reported. Coburn allegedly resisted arrest, only complying when officers threatened to shoot him with a Taser.

The victim was crying and had red marks on her neck when officers arrived, they reported. Initially she was uncooperative, telling officers, “I’m fine. Nothing happened,” according to the complaint. In a subsequent interview, she told officers that she was gasping for breath as she was dragged all the way from the car to the bedroom by Coburn, with his two hands on her neck. She told officers that Coburn assaults her frequently and showed them bruises from recent attacks, according to the complaint.
