On August 19, officers were notified that four counterfeit checks totaling $1,300, were cashed at Schniepp’s Bar. The suspects were a black male and black female.
At 2:30 p.m. on August 21, Schniepp’s Bar staff called officers again to tell them the same male and female attempted to cash another check. The employee wrote down the female’s license number and license plate number. Soon after, a Handy Corner employee called to report that the same woman was attempting to cash a check there. Police arrived and arrested Schinece Annette Bell, 21, of Chicago, for gross misdemeanor possession of a counterfeit check. Officers approached the male, who had been waiting in the vehicle, and asked for his name. He gave them an ID, which he later admitted was not his own. He was arrested for giving a false name to the police, and was later identified as Carl Leron Thompson, 22, of Rochester.
