So here we are in August of 2013 and that I-90 business park still sits empty. The two alleged “prospects” really don’t look like they are panning out.
One is still looking for investors. Additionally, they want you to pay half the cost of their feasibility study ($2,500.00). The other is more Mickey Mouse than Mickey. I don’t see 0.003% as any kind of down payment. Both prospects are little more than real estate agents. Neither of these companies is looking to relocate their business here and create jobs to benefit St.Charles. They are looking for others to do that.
Mr. Koverman assured us last spring that; “If this one doesn’t work out, there will be another one right behind it.” Really?
On the city’s website, there is a “Concept Plan.” This plan shows 13 lots. There is also a “Final Plat” and it shows 9 lots. The lot sizes are laid out and the locations for driveways into these lots are determined by code. If you drive up there and look you will see that not one of those driveways exists. Thousands of linear feet of curb and gutter installed, and not one inch of “drive over” curb and gutter.
Here’s a point for that feasibility study: “These developers overlooked a basic requirement of infrastructure. This omission will add unnecessary expense to any business looking to locate here.”
Maybe our council members should start a business up there. If they really cared about St. Charles.
