As summer draws toward its close, the Lanesboro Barn Dance presents the last dance of its nineteenth season. Itís a fine chance to kick up your heels.exercise while enjoying yourself! You can socialize with friends and new acquaintances while you glide around one of the finest dance floors in the area.
The Lanesboro Barn Dance will take place at the Sons of Norway Hall in Lanesboro on Saturday September 7. It starts at 8 PM and runs until 11 PM with an admission charge of $7.00.
As always, the Lanesboro Barn Dance will feature traditional square dances, big circles and couples dances like waltzes, polkas and schottisches. Square and circle dances will be taught and called by Pop Wagner, an experienced and well respected caller from the Twin Cities. You may be familiar with Wagner from his many appearances on ďA Prairie Home CompanionĒ on National Public Radio and in the movie of the same name.
Old time string band music will be furnished by local favorites Bob Bovee and Betsy Neil on fiddle, guitar and harmonica.
Although itís good to know right from left before you come, no other knowledge or experience is required. All organized dances are taught and you donít need to bring a partner. This is like the old-fashioned barn dances that were once the mainstay of entertainment in this part of the country. Just come prepared to have a good time.
This event is presented in cooperation with the southeastern Minnesota Arts Council through funding from the Minnesota State Legislature.
