He and Millie joined the “Owls” church group. They loved to play 500, a card game, with friends. They played once a month for over 50 years. He was a member of Neighbors Against Gangs (NAG), Gasoline Retailers Association, VFW, and the Winona Senior Center. He was a longtime member of St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church, Winona.

He is survived by his children: Darlene Metzler, Winona; John (Margaret) Haessig, Faribault, Minn.; James (Julie) Haessig, Trempealeau, Wis.; and Gerald (Patricia) Haessig, Goodview, Minn.; seven grandchildren; many great and great-great grandchildren; three sisters: Iola Briske, Vivian Zarling and Verna (Don) Grover; and other relatives.
