Missiles and Michael (09/15/2013)

and Michael

From: T.M. Schoewe

This week, the Congress was to decide to agree or disagree with the president as to whether to shoot missiles into Syria! That has since changed, according to his speech wherein he explained to the American people that he wanted Congress to hold off. Hold off on a decision which has turned into being about not doing something. That’s a first! Anyway, we think the whole question of sending missiles into Syria is one which should have never been raised. It has merely divided our nation on a point of discussion. And if ever there was a time when our nation needs to be united it is today!

This subject of missiles is one which we never give much thought to, although we have heard about them to be sure. Two of my military assignments were in missile territories in Wyoming and North Dakota. We especially remember the Atlas sites along “Horse Creek,” where we caught many brown trout. These missile silos in the cornfields of North Dakota and Wyoming were for our defense or protection, which we hoped were never needed. They were simply for our defense and protection. We also have military satellites imaging our borders and silent nuclear submarines that prowl the oceans, along with radar capable of tracking everything that moves in the air. And now we have these unmanned drones that can keep an eye on things.

Now while we seldom give much thought to our military defenses that protect the citizens of our country, and which do it quietly and without people really taking notice, so, too, we are most of the time not aware of our protectors in the spiritual world. They work silently as well, carrying out God’s orders and operating to keep believers safe from the evil one and his angels from hell. And although we can’t see or hear them work, the archangel Michael and his heavenly host are engaged in violent spiritual warfare for or on our behalf. Please read Revelation 12: 7-9: “There was war in heaven! Michael and his angels fought against the dragon, and the dragon and his angels fought back. But he was not strong enough, and they lost their place in heaven. The great dragon was hurled down, that ancient serpent called the devil, or Satan, who leads the whole world astray, he was thrown down to the earth, and his angels were thrown down with him.”

But dear friend it really only looks like evil has triumphed in the earth. We might think that “good” is passing away, just fading out or that its force is all spent. But actually the truth is that Satan has been really wounded by the mighty blow or blast from Calvary’s cross. And actually, Satan and his demons are kept in check by the never-ending patrols of our heavenly friends, the holy angels. You might have experienced times in your life when there seem to have been interventions for which there is no one to give credit to. Maybe credit should be given to your holy angel. Some people chalk these things up to coincidence. Well, just remember that the Lord that is in charge of all is also in charge of coincidences and that ought to cover it.

Someday we will be able to see and communicate with the wondrous creatures Scripture calls “angels.” Right now the Lord God thinks it is enough that we just take His Word for it, that they will keep us safe and will finally take us to heaven. The last weekend of September is St. Michael’s day. He is the chief of angels. We thank you, St. Michael, and continue to pray each day “In the name of the Father Who created us, the Son Who redeemed, and Holy Spirit Who gives us faith, “Let the holy angel be with us.” And why? So “That the wicked foe have no power over us!”
