He served in the U.S. Marines during World War II in the Pacific and married Patricia D. Schwarzhoff on September 26, 1946. He worked as a factory tool and die maker for 40 years, before retiring from Gale Manufacturing in 1988.

He was an active member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, the Trempealeau Co. Agency for Aging, the Trempealeau VFW Post and the American Legion.

Survivors are their six sons: Gary (Carla) of Eau Claire, Wis., Joe (Bonnie) of Rice Lake, Wis., Bob (Karen) of Dubuque, Iowa, Jeff (Marilyn) of Esko, Minnesota, Dave (Tammy) and Steve (Kristin), both of Galesville, Wis., 17 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.

Ed is also survived by his sisters: Margaret Grover (Don) and Theresa Hunter (Llaird), and brother, Pete Knepper (Betty), all of Trempealeau.

Ed was preceded in death by his wife, Pat, his sister, Catherine, and brother, Paul.

A special thanks to Marinuka Manor and Mayo Hospital of La Crosse for their loving care.

Funeral services will be Saturday, September 28, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Galesville, with Fr. Edmund Doerre officiating. Burial will at Holy Cross Cemetery, Trempealeau, with military rites. Friends may call at the church on Sat. from 9:30 to 11:00 a.m. Zwickey Funeral Homes assisted the family.
