Sporleder, Viola C. (09/29/2013)
Viola C. Sporleder, age 84, of Winona, died Monday, September 23, 2013, at Saint Anne Extended Healthcare, Winona, Minn.

Viola Clara was born December 30, 1928, in Carroll, Iowa, to Raymond and Josephine (Weiland) Odendahl. She graduated from Auburn High School, Auburn, Iowa. In February, 1951, she married Charles Sporleder and he preceded her in death October 13, 1984.

Viola farmed with Charles for many years and they raised eight children. They moved to Winona in 1970 and after raising their family, Viola worked for Lake Center, Telex Communications, and Wincraft before retiring. She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Winona. Viola loved spending time with her family and cooking for them for any occasion. She enjoyed following Vikings football and was an avid bowler, being in different women’s leagues for many years.

She is survived by eight children: David (Gail) Sporleder, Story City, Iowa, Patrick (Renee) Sporleder, Altoona, Iowa, Douglas (Connie) Sporleder, Milbank, S.D.; Debra (Kirk) McCowen, Des Moines, Iowa, Pamela (Scott) Brown, Lewiston, Minn., Paul (Angie) Sporleder, Somerset, Wis., Julie (Jim) Tepe, Winona and Carol (Larry) Mueller, Winona, Minn.; 17 grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, three siblings: Mary Howe, Alexandria, Minn., Jim Odendahl, Lake City, Iowa, and Helen (Larry) Lewis, Grand Island, Neb.; and other relatives.

She was preceded in death by her parents, two grandchildren in infancy; and a brother, Charles Odendahl.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 12:30 p.m. Monday, September 30, 2013, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Winona, Minn., with Rev. James Berning officiating. Interment will be at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Winona, Minn.

Visitation will begin at 11:30 a.m. Monday in the Visitation Commons of St. Mary’s Catholic Church.

Casket bearers will be her grandchildren.

Memorials may be directed to Saint Anne Extended Healthcare Foundation or Winona Area Hospice.

Words of sympathy or remembrance may be left at www.fawcett-junkerfuneralhome.com. Services entrusted to Fawcett-Junker Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Winona.
