Parking problem (10/06/2013)
From: Diana Cyert

I am sure nobody will even read this or much care as I am sure you get many letters complaining about their ticket and how they are innocent and shouldn’t pay it.

I am guilty of overtime parking. I will pay the $10.00 fine.

What I am complaining about is the fact that the parking around the Friendship Center is so poor.

I volunteered my time on Tuesday, September 24, to work in the Gift Shop at the Friendship Center from 9 a.m. to 12 noon. Unfortunately, I failed to remember to go and move my car. So volunteering my time for the City of Winona Friendship Center cost me $10.00. The parking situation is very poor around the Center. I forgot that where I parked was a two hour zone not a three hour zone. However, when I came there weren’t many available spaces nearby to park.

I know you can’t overlook the overtime parked cars around the Friendship Center, but there are many older members who love to come belong to a book club, play cards, exercise, work in the Gift Shop, teach a class, that have difficulty walking to make a trip to their cars to move them and then back again to the Friendship Center just to enjoy a couple hours of sociability or volunteering.

It would have been wonderful if the city would have purchased Central School and we would have a lot of free parking. As the number of Baby Boomers join the Friendship Center maybe some of those will have a say with the City of Winona and either help us find a much needed building with better parking or obtain better parking in the area. Then a volunteer doesn’t have to run out and move her car.

Thank you for the paid jobs you do. Now think about all the money volunteers save the city in the jobs they do.
