Winona's current Mississippi River bridge has been immortalized on postcards, painted against the backdrop of warm sunsets and autumn foliage. It is a scene that many cherish, and one that will soon change with the construction of a second bridge that will span the Mississippi River adjacent to the current, historic bridge.
Fall colors are beginning to dapple the rolling bluffs; cool nights and warm days create surreal fog draped sunrises and vibrant sunsets. It is the perfect time to capture the iconic river scene, and the Winona Post is sponsoring a bridge photography contest to help savor that view.
From now until December 2, the Winona Post will accept photo submissions of the historic bridge for consideration in the contest. Photographers will be judged in two categories: professional and amateur. Entrants should indicate which category they are entering, and include a name, address, telephone number and email address with the submission. Each person may enter up to two photographs and is discouraged from overly-processing or altering submissions with digital image editing, although some retouching is acceptable.
Digital entries should be submitted in high resolution form and emailed to firstname.lastname@example.org. Discs or prints may be mailed to or dropped off at the Winona Post, P.O. Box 27, 64 East Second Street, Winona, Minn.
The top photographs will be printed in the Winona Post in late December, and the winners from both the professional and amateur categories will receive prizes including annual passes to some of the area's unique attractions, as well as a certificate to enjoy a meal at a local restaurant. Winona Post employees and their families are not eligible, although individuals not employed by the Winona Post who have submitted photos for print in the paper are encouraged to enter.
