We just recently had a mini class reunion and yes, 1951 is 62 years ago. Our group had decided to hold reunions at two year intervals because of our ages. Sadly, we have lost 74 out of our graduating class already. But surprise, Fred Mahlke suggested from this year forth we get together every year, so with a show of hands his suggestion passed and every year it is.
Saturday afternoon, October 12, we gathered at the American Legion Club on Sarnia Street and socialized until about 8:30 p.m. On Sunday, October 13, we gathered for brunch until about 2 p.m.; 40 of us had a great time socializing on Saturday and 26 enjoyed an outing on Sunday.
Our group consisted of some from this area and some from out of town, of course. I think the out-of-towners won the flip of the coin. However everyone’s presence was certainly enjoyed. Lt. Col. Jack Fair, Ret., and wife Kathy flew his plane in from Texas. Rita (Kauphusman) Eckstrom and son drove here from New York, and Rev. Vernon Awes and wife Marlys drove in from the Madison, Wis. area. Nice group of people and next year we will do this all over again.
