Valentine: bloggers, please stop posing as me online (10/20/2013)
From: Wayne Valentine

Winona County Board of

Commissioners Chair

Winona

I have been advised that someone using my name, Wayne Valentine, has been posting comments on the Winona Daily News website.

I am told that this action is used by persons to comment on letters to the Editor or stories that have been featured in the Daily News.

One of the recent postings by the person using my name apparently contained some negative comments aimed at one of my fellow county commissioners.

As far as I know there is no other Wayne Valentine residing in Winona County or this area and because I have never visited or used this website to post comments, I would like to make persons who do visit the website aware of the fact that I am not the person posting the negative comments.

As an elected official I prefer to make any comments in a transparent manner during public meetings or other public sessions. I choose not to engage in name-calling or making hurtful comments about other persons.

I believe it is cowardly for someone to post negative comments using someone else’s name and, therefore, I’m requesting that the person who has been doing this immediately cease and desist from engaging in this practice. Postings by persons who choose to remain anonymous should also be disregarded.

I have also asked the Winona County Attorney to review the legalities related to a person using someone else’s name to post such comments to the Daily News website.

I am also hoping the Editor and Publisher of the Winona Daily News will take steps to monitor the newspaper’s comment section to assure that posts that are made can actually be attributed to the person or persons purportedly making them.

I will continue to take my “common sense” approach when dealing with issues that come before the Winona County Board, and citizens can rest assured that when I do make comments relative to those issues that I will make them during public meetings where they will most likely be reported on by the media that cover those sessions.
