Lubinski, Marian Marie (Mahlke)
Marian Marie (Mahlke) Lubinski was called through heaven’s garden gates in the early morning hours on October 23, at Winona Health.
She was born to Helen Marie (Keller) and Fred F. Mahlke on July 25, 1929, in Winona, Minn.
She married her sailor, Roman R. Lubinski on June 5, 1954, in Winona. They celebrated 59 years together, sailing their “ship.”
While growing up, she worked for her parents, serving ice cream sundaes and sodas at the Capitol Confectionery.
She loved to have fun and hosted many cottage gatherings with family and friends, welcoming anyone who would attend. She was an avid gardener, winning many accolades for her prize peonies and irises while being a member of the Winona Flower and Garden Club.
She was an election judge for many years, a member of the Winona Clown Club (Jete’). Marian continued to support the servicemen through her 42 years as a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, holding offices of president, 1st vice president, chaplain, board member and the poppy and membership chairman for many years.
She was an avid birdwatcher, documenting her lifetime list, loved nature, was a crafter, a seamstress and gourmet cook. She was a member of St. Martin’s Lutheran Church. She loved to get dressed up and go dancing with Roman. She kept the “Home Port” in order while her husband was “out to sea.” She passed on many of her talents to her children and those she left behind.
Marian supported her husband’s Navy career of 25 years, moving the family from “port to port” and being Roman’s “first mate.” She is survived by her devoted husband and her five loving children, each one born in a different “port”: Lisa (Michael) Torfin, born in San Diego, Calif., residing in Victoria, Minn., Lee Lubinski, born in Great Lakes, Ill., residing in Winona, Shayna (Joseph) Dais born in Waukegan, Ill., residing in Winona, Ondrej (Tami) Lubinski, born in Anehiem, Calif., residing in Winona and Fritz (Solvieg) Lubinski, born in Hancock, Mich., residing in Rochester, Minn.
