Good Samaritans attempted to revive a man after the semi-truck he was driving veered off I-90, but he was pronounced dead and police have requested an autopsy to determine the cause of death.
Rand Stiles, 55, of Cold Water, Mich., was driving the truck just after 5 p.m. on Monday, when the vehicle left the Interstate and broke through a fence, the trailer ending up on County Road 104. Three witnesses attempted to help the man, who they could see through the window was still breathing. The truck’s doors were locked; one witness was able to break the window, and the three attempted CPR. A passing emergency medical technician arrived to help, with medical equipment, but the Samaritans and ambulance workers were unable to revive him.
Winona County Sheriff Dave Brand said the autopsy may be able to pinpoint whether there was a medical condition that caused the driver to lose control of the truck.
