Dennis, Charles D. (11/01/2013)

Charles D. Dennis, 74, of Winona, Minn., passed away on Thursday, October 31, 2013, at Gundersen Health System in La Crosse, Wis.

He was born May 19, 1939, in Winona, Minn., the son of Ellsworth M. and Genevieve (Palbicki) Dennis. On June 10, 1961, he married Carol Lee Muras at St. Stanislaus Kostka Church in Winona. He was a member of the Basilica of St. Stanislaus Kostka and the Winona Polish Cultural Institute.

Charlie’s working career in construction involved various supervisory positions primarily in underground street utilities. He started his career with Winona Plumbing Company, followed by Fraser Construction and Austin P. Keller Construction. Charlie completed his work in the underground utilities field out west with Brown & Cris in Arizona during the 1990’s. Upon returning to Minnesota, he worked for Wapasha Construction managing various projects around the region. Charlie was instrumental in the improvements made to the Winona Polish Cultural Institute as well as to the construction of the new annex building. Later in life he was employed at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Seminary in Winona overseeing various maintenance and new construction projects.

Outside of work, he enjoyed spending time with family and friends, as well as boating on the Mississippi River. A man of many talents, he was more than willing to share those talents with others.

Charlie is survived by his spouse, Carol Lee, Winona; sons, Jeffrey (Kathleen), Weston, Wis., and Steven (Patricia), Freedom, Wis., grandchildren, Bridget, Zachary, Grant, Alexander, Conner and Jennifer; brothers, Robert and Richard (Betty), sister, Joyce (Edward) Przybylski, sister-in-law, Ruth Dennis, many nieces and nephews, as well as other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Ellsworth J. (Ceil) and Edward, and sister-in-law, Hope Dennis.

Charlie’s family would like to thank the medical staff at Gundersen Health System for their dedication and care for Charlie during his final days.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday, November 5, 2013, at the Basilica of St. Stanislaus Kostka. The Reverend Monsignor Thomas J. Hargesheimer, the Reverend Monsignor Thomas Melvin and the Reverend Paul J. Breza will concelebrate. Charlie will be laid to rest in St. Mary’s Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 4:30 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Monday, November 4, 2013, at Watkowski-Mulyck Funeral Home, where Father Breza will lead a Christian Wake Service at 7 p.m. Visitation will also be held at the Basilica of St. Stanislaus Kostka, on Tuesday, November 5, 2013, from 10:30 a.m. until 11:15 a.m.

Pallbearers will be Richard Dennis, Robert Sieracki, Les Nelson, Daniel Morris Jr., Richard Weilandt and Roger Spalding.

The family respectfully requests that memorials be directed to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.
