Winona Police

Thurs., October 31

• At 11:01 p.m. police received a call reporting damage to a Winona State University banner on 11th Street east of Huff Street. A caller reported witnessing Benjamin Robert Barner, 21, of Winona, jump and hang from a fiberglass pole holding the banner, which then broke off. Barner then allegedly took the banner into a nearby bar. He was later charged with fourth degree damage to property. The banner was valued at $79.50.

Sat., November 2

• At 8 p.m. police were called to Shopko on a report of a shoplifter. Christian Jonathan Herrera, 19, of Des Plaines, Ill., was cited for theft by shoplifting after he allegedly tried to steal $54.98 in merchandise.

• At 4:28 a.m. police stopped a vehicle at Third and Main streets for having an item hanging from the rearview mirror. The driver, David Lee Olcott, Jr., 36, of Fountain City, Wis., was referred to the County Attorney for potential charges of fourth-degree driving while intoxicated with a blood alcohol content measured at .08 percent.

Sunday, November 3

• At 12:33 a.m. police stopped a vehicle at Ninth and Huff streets for allegedly driving without headlights on. The driver, Mitchell Paul Kreidermacher, 20, of Winona, was cited for third-degree driving while intoxicated, possession of drug paraphernalia, and possession of marijuana in a motor vehicle. Police said officers detected an odor of alcohol and marijuana inside the vehicle, and that when asked, Kreidermacher gave the officer a bag of marijuana. Police later allegedly found a glass pipe inside the vehicle. Kreidermacher’s blood alcohol content was measured at .09 percent.

Mon., November 4

• At 12:59 p.m. a 54-year-old Winona man told police that Jeffrey Timothy David Strand, 23, of Winona, had taken $30 in cash and the man’s debit card from his residence while Strand was a guest there. Police said Strand allegedly used the debit card to make more than $100 in purchases. He was referred to the County Attorney for misdemeanor theft and financial card transaction fraud.

Tues., November 5

• At 11:05 a.m. police received a call from a resident on the 850 block of East 11th Street reporting damage to her vehicle. The rear tire was reportedly slashed.

Thurs., November 7

• At 11:58 p.m. police were called to Third and Mechanic streets on a report of a vehicle on the railroad tracks. The driver, Erin Mae Clark, 31, of Winona, allegedly showed signs of intoxication and was cited for fourth-degree driving while intoxicated. Her blood alcohol content was measured at .20 percent.
