Boy Scout from Troop 13
The VFW approached me and asked if I could locate all of the veterans buried in St. Mary’s Cemetery and then create a list of them. Up until now, they did not have a complete list of the veterans in St. Mary’s Cemetery; the information was only known by a few individuals. Volunteers from Troop 13 and I then went throughout St. Mary’s Cemetery and recorded all of the veteran graves and their locations in GPS coordinates. Once all of the information was collected, I compiled it into a database. A hard copy of this database was then printed out and put into a binder. This binder can now be found at the main office at St. Mary’s cemetery, and is available for the public to view and use. There is also a GPS at the main office that can be used to help find the location of a grave. The coordinates of a grave can be found on the list. A person can then enter those coordinates into the GPS and it will guide them to the grave they are looking for.
This list will be available for the public to view this upcoming Veterans Day Weekend.
