Russell William Loxterman, 55, of Winona, died Saturday, November 16, 2013, at Lake Winona Manor, after losing his battle with glioblastoma, an aggressive form of brain cancer.
Russell was born in Omaha on July 29, 1958, to Charles and Polly (Boulton) Loxterman. As a child, his family moved to Pittsburg and later to Elkhart, Ind., where he attended part of grade school through high school. Russell attended Purdue University and graduated in December, 1981, with a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering Technology.
He was united in marriage to Karla Seidel on April 13, 1983, in Texas. As newlyweds, Russell and Karla worked, lived, and raised a family in Texas. There, Russ worked for General Dynamics, Texas Instruments and Marconi Communication. He went on to later earn his MBA from the Keller Business School through DeVry University. Russell completed the program in half the normal time and was proud to graduate with Distinction. He was also awarded the Keller Distinctive Graduate Student Award for outstanding service to fellow students and the community.
Russ and his family relocated to Winona in 2004, and Russ began working for Benchmark Electronics as a test manager. Even after being diagnosed with a brain tumor, Russell still enjoyed mentoring high school students in the WSHS Robotics Club.
He is survived by his wife of over 30 years, Karla Seidel of Winona; sons, Paul and Ryan Loxterman; sister, Marie (David) McCutcheon of Huntsville, Ala.; and nephew, William Thomas of Danville, Calif. Russell was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Barbara Thomas.
The family prefers memorials be directed to the Robotics Club at Winona Senior High School attention: Activities Office.
A gathering of family and friends will be held from 5 until 7 p.m. on Thursday, November 21, 2013, at Hoff Celebration of Life Center in Goodview.
