Byron C. Grossell, age 77, of Fountain City, Wis., died Saturday, November 16, 2013, at Sauer Health Care, Winona, Minn.
Byron Charles was born October 8, 1936, in Fountain City, Wis., to John and Florence (Abts) Grossell.
A lifelong area resident, he graduated from Fountain City High School. He served in the U.S. Army and was stationed in France for part of his duty. He was formerly employed at Badger Foundry, Warner-Swasey, and Buffalo Lumber & Tie Company. After retiring, he helped maintain the Fountain City Public Cemetery.
He was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Fountain City. Byron was an avid fisherman and could be seen walking anywhere with his walking stick.
He is survived by his four siblings: Ken (Geri) Grossell, Osakis, Minn., Joan Boland, Arcadia, Wis., Jack (Diane) Grossell, Fountain City, Wis., and Kris (Scott) Ressie, Fountain City, Wis., and several nieces and nephews who fondly called him “Uncle Buford”.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Robert, and a sister, Arlene Wiench.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, November 22, 2013, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Fountain City, Wis., with Rev. Brian Jazdzewski officiating. Interment will be at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Fountain City, Wis. Military burial honors will be conducted by the American Legion Post 56 - Fountain City, Wis.
Visitation will begin at 9:30 a.m. at the church on Friday.
