We are fortunate in our community to have Winona Area Hospice, an incredible resource available to us during perhaps what can be the most stressful time in our lives. The support and assistance this organization provides cannot easily be expressed in words. The staff of hospice offer medical, physical and emotional support to anyone facing the end of life as well as the entire family of the loved one - support that is family focused and directed.
Hospice helps families fulfill the wish that many have at the end of life, “to die in my home with my family near.” I have personally experienced being able to fulfill this wish for my mother, with the help of Hospice, and not only was it a gift to Mom but to all of our family as well.
During this month of November which is designated as Hospice Month, I encourage people to remember Hospice in the charitable giving and also to attend the open house of the newly renovated Serenity Rooms at Lake Winona Manor on Saturday, November 23, 1 until 4 p.m. These four rooms along, with a family lounge, are a result of the generosity of people who appreciate the work of hospice and have financially supported it, and are a visible representation of the loving philosophy of care and comfort of hospice. They are indeed a gift to our community.
