A blessed tradition: Oplatki December 7 (11/24/2013)
We liberated the Oplatki celebration from Sunday and moved it to Saturday. It was thought that this move would allow the football fans to not have to make such difficult decision on which way to spend their day.

Polish Christmas carols, Polish food, Polish deserts and Polish Christmas shopping will be open to all to enjoy. It is also a time to acknowledge our volunteers and their dedication to the institution. The visitors to the museum are always greeted by a friendly and knowledgeable staff.

Please join us Saturday December 7th from 12 noon to 4 p.m.

The Oplatki Christmas tradition, as it is commonly celebrated in the home, goes something like this: Just before the Christmas Eve meal the entire family will gather around the table with the Christmas wafer. Generally the eldest member of the family, usually the father or mother, will begin the ritual by breaking off a piece of the wafer and passing it to another family member while giving a blessing. This blessing can simply consist of what you desire for your loved one in the upcoming year - whether it be good health, growth in Godís grace, or happiness. The Christmas wafer is then passed from person to person around the table until all have had a piece and all have been given blessings.
