Smothers, Elvin Lee (12/02/2013)

Elvin Lee Smothers, age 37, of Winona, passed away on Monday, November 25, 2013, at his home following a two-year battle with cancer.

He was born in Tomah, Wis., on March 26, 1976, and graduated from Winona Senior High School in 1994. At the age of 16, Elvin started working at Kolterís Bike Shop in Winona. He also worked at Peerless Chain in Winona, and was most recently employed with the Burlington Northern Sante Fe Railroad.

Elvin enjoyed working on cars and building custom bikes, trailers, cat trees, and many other items. He will be forever remembered as a loving husband, dad, son, brother, uncle and cousin who was always willing to help anyone in need.

He married Kathy Kearney on September 27, 2013, at Gundersen Health System in La Crosse.

Elvin is lovingly survived by his wife, Kathy; his first wife, Amanda (Duden) Smothers and their son, Jamie Smothers; parents: Mildred and Kim Milene; brothers: Fletcher (Ashley Berg) Milene and Kelly Milene; niece, Isabelle Milene; nephew, Adam Milene; and a cousin, Tawnya Smith; as well as other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his grandmother, Pherbia Smothers, and an uncle, William Smothers.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Sunday, December 1, 2013, at Watkowski-Mulyck Funeral Home.

Elvin will be laid to rest in Woodlawn Cemetery in a family ceremony at a later date.

Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Sunday, December 1, 2013, from 11 a.m. until time of the service.

Following the service, a celebration of Elvinís life will continue at the Winona Athletic Club.
