Cada, Gerald G. (12/02/2013)

Gerald G. Cada, age 73, of Winona, Minn., passed away on Wednesday, November 27, 2013, at his home surrounded by his family.

Gerald was born on November 2, 1940, in Winona, Minn., to George and Helen (Knapik) Cada. On February 3, 1968, he was united in marriage with Peggy McGuire at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Winona.

For 37 years, he was employed at Peerless Chain and for the last 12 years as “box manager” at Midtown Foods. He was a lifelong member of St. John Nepomucene Catholic Church.

Gerald’s passions were family, faith and friends. He enjoyed Roccos pizza every other Wednesday and treating his kids and grandkids to cheeseburgers and fries at LakeView Drive Inn on Thursdays for lunch. He liked grilling, watching the Minnesota Twins, leading the Rosary on Saturday mornings at the Cathedral of the Sacred Heart, working at Midtown Foods, drinking Diet Pepsi, listening to 50s rock-n-roll music, attending kids’ and grandkids’ activities…….and “a good nap.”

Gerald is survived by his wife, Peggy Cada; children, Mark (Kady) Cada, Steven (Karie) Cada, Maribeth (Tom) O’Hara, Brian (Summer) Cada, and Matthew (Taylor Olmsted) Cada; grandchildren, Haylee, Ashlee, Aidyn, Aubrie, Lydia, Annika, Andrew, Josie, Taylor, Carter, Macy, William, Riley, Grace, and Joyanna; siblings, Michael (Diane) Cada, and Mariann (Mike) Matejka; many nieces and nephews; as well as other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Carol (Vern) Spitzer; and in-laws, George and Inez McGuire.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 1:30 p.m. on Sunday, December 1, 2013, at St. John Nepomucene Catholic Church.

The Reverend Monsignor Thomas J. Hargesheimer will officiate.

Visitation will be held at St. John Nepomucene Catholic Church, on Sunday, December 1, 2013, from 11:30 a.m. until time of the Mass.

Honorary pallbearers will be Bob Spitzer, Ron Spitzer, Rick Spitzer, Chris Matejka, Jon Cada, Dan Eichman and Michelle Kohner.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred.

Online condolences or memories may be left for Gerald’s family at www.watkowski-mulyck.com

Entrusted to Our Care – Watkowski-Mulyck Funeral Home.
