Grade 8 Social Studies
Winona Middle School
On November 20, the students and staff of Minnesota State Southeast Technical College welcomed over 60 eighth grade students from the Winona Middle School to their campus for a day of learning and fun. Middle school students were paired with a college student, in their area of interest, and spent the better part of the day learning about a particular career option. Students and staff from over 10 different programs provided valuable insight to young and interested 8th graders. Winona Middle School students were given hands-on opportunities in carpentry, nursing, cosmetology, truck driving, auto technology, auto body repair, welding, computer aided design, criminal justice, and massage therapy. The experience provided by the good people at MN State SE Technical will be remembered for a long time by the 8th graders that participated. Not only did our middle school students learn about various programs of study, but were shown that a technical education is a viable and worthwhile option in today’s economy.
A special thank-you needs to go out to Cindy Kottke, Mark Quamme, and Shannon Schell for making all the arrangements to make this wonderful day possible.
