Recent story about Winona State (12/04/2013)
From: Andrew Andrusko

student

I am writing you in regards to the recent article “WSU unveils land purchase plans (11/24/2013).”

First, I would like to point out that the name of the state university in the city of Mankato, Minnesota is the Minnesota State University, Mankato. It has been 14 years since the official name change by the legislature. No one continues to refer to Winona State University as ‘Winona State College’, the least you could do is use the proper name for other state institutions.

Second, the discussion of enrollment is contradictory to other public media sources. Saint Cloud State University and the Saint Cloud Times report that it is the largest in the MNSCU system and the second largest university in Minnesota. The Annual Enrollment report has proudly stated this for at least three years now. This is in contrast to the Winona Post article which states that “... WSU may surpass St. Cloud State University to trail only Mankato State University.” According to the most recent publicly available enrollment report from the Board of Trustees, this is not the case. According to projections by MNSCU, the Minnesota State University, Mankato, will be the largest in full year equivalent (FYE) students and Saint Cloud State University will come in second in FYE enrollments.

Editor’s Note: You are right that we called Minnesota State University, Mankato, by its old name. As far as the enrollment discussion, it was a quote.
