December 8

Winona Area Coin Club will meet on Sunday, December 8, at 11 a.m. at the Winona Athletic Club meeting hall, 773 E. 5th St.

December 9

The Catholic Daughters will have their Christmas Social on Monday, December 9, at 5:30 p.m. at the Cathedral.   Bring an appetizer to share.   Rosary and meeting will follow.   Our charities this month are the Hermitage (Pill Bottle), Caring Sharing Hands-white socks, and a wrapped gift for Birthright. Christmas cards will be sent to our clergy and State officers.   Interested ladies, come join us!

Ruskin will meet at the home of Jeanine Black on December 9, at 1:00 p.m. Janet Nustad will serve as co-hostess and the paper will be presented by Sheryl Miller.

The important meeting of the Lewiston Sportsmen’s Club, to elect club officers and members on the board of directors, will be held Monday, December 9, at 7:30 p.m. at the Recreation Bar and Café in Lewiston. All members are encouraged to attend. The LSC is proud to announce that in 2013 the club has over 300 members again!

The December meeting of the Chautauqua Club will be held Monday, December 9, at the home of Lori Kathrein. Members may meet at The Plaza parking lot at 11:45 to drive to the Kathrein home. The meeting will begin at noon and festive attire is encouraged! If members are unable to attend, please contact Lori at 474-9311.

Stockton Rollingstone Minnesota City Watershed board meeting will be held at 7 p.m. on December 9,  at the Stockton Community Center

December 11

 Winona County Soil and Water Conservation District Board of Supervisors will hold their regular monthly board meeting at 9:00 a.m. on Wednesday, December 11, at the Ag Service Center, 400 Wilson Street, Lewiston.

December 12

Minnesota City Community Readers will meet on Thursday, December 12, at 6:30 p.m. at 115 Iowa Street, Minnesota City. The book being discussed is Cry, the Beloved Country by Alan Paton.  The January book will be Snake Dreams by James Doss. All readers are invited whether or not they have read the book. Ideas for book selections will be welcomed.

December 13

Stockton Rollingstone Minnesota City Watershed board meeting will be held at 7 p.m. on the 13th of December at the Stockton Community Center.

December 16

Winona Shrine Auxiliary will meet at 11:30 a.m. on Monday, December 16, at Westfield Golf Club. The menu will be pork chops in mushroom gravy, mashed potatoes, vegetable, salad, roll and dessert. Winter weather notice - if schools are closed Shrine won’t meet either. For reservations call Jane Haugan at 454-4253.

December 18

Winona County Soil and Water Conservation District Board of Supervisors will hold a special meeting for the purpose of continuing the District’s Strategic Planning – “The Next 75 Years” on December 18, at 9:00 a.m. at the Ag Service Center, 400 Wilson Street, Lewiston.


 Harvest House, a non-profit, non-denominational organization for 50 and getting better, will hold their monthly meeting Wednesday, December 18, at 1:30 p.m. in St. Stanislaus hall. Mass will be celebrated at 1:00 p.m. with Father Paul Breza as celebrant, for those wishing to attend. There will be a business meeting followed by bingo.  Bring a wrapped gift for bingo and a non-perishable food item for a needy family.  We will be served a catered Christmas dinner. Sign up sheets for Day Trippers Theatre “Always a Bridesmaid” Apr. 3 and Old Log Theater “Steel Magnolias” May 8.  Non-members are welcome on our trips.  For more information, call Mary Jane at 454-8488 or Jane at 454-1430.

The Whitewater Joint Powers Board will meet on Thursday, December 19, at 8:30 a.m. at Whitewater State Park Visitor’s Center, 19041 Highway 74, Altura.

Overeater’s Anonymous meets Saturdays at 8:30 a.m. at 1717 Service Drive ( Faith Lutheran Church).

Al-Anon Family Group Thursdays, 7-8 p.m., St. Augustine Room, Cathedral of the Sacred Heart, 360 Main Street. A 12-step fellowship for families of problem drinkers. 452-4445 for more information.

Addicted? Set Free! is a twelve week program to help you achieve victory over your addicting behaviors. New members are welcome any time. We meet weekly at Calvary Baptist Church, 676 W. Sarnia St., Winona,  at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday evenings.  For more information call 452-6850. 

Celebrate Recovery meets Friday nights at Pleasant Valley Church, 1363 Homer Road, Winona. Celebrate Recovery is a Christ-centered recovery program. If  you are looking for encouragement, strength and hope in your life please join us. Our evenings begin at 6:00 p.m. with dinner followed by worship, large group and small group discussions. The National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) of Minnesota sponsors free support groups for families who have a relative with a mental illness.  Led by trained facilitators who also have a family member with mental illness, the support groups help families develop better coping skills and find strength through sharing their experiences.  A family support group meets in Winona at 7:00 p.m., on the second Monday of the month, at Winona Health, 855 Mankato Avenue, in the Parkview conference room. The Widowed Persons Social Group (December) meets for breakfast every Tuesday at 8:00 a.m. at the Country Kitchen. Dinners every Thursday at 5:30 p.m. at New China King Buffet, 1733 Service Drive, Winona. All widows and widowers and/or guests are invited. TOPS MN #823 (Take Off Pounds Sensibly) weight loss support group meets Fridays at 7:30 a.m. at St. Casimir’s, 626 West Broadway. For information call 452-5535.

Caregiver Support Group for Adults Age 55 & Better Group provides an opportunity to meet with other caregivers to exchange helpful tips, give and receive support, as well as learn about new resources. The group meets the 1st Wednesday of each month from 2-3 p.m. at the Elder Network office, 1756 Kraemer Drive, Suite 110, Winona.  Contact Renee Kreter at 452-0580 for more information.

Peer Support Network (PSN) is open 7 days per week. Hours are: Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 4 p.m.-8 p.m., Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10 a.m-2 p.m., and Saturdays and Sundays from 1-5 p.m. PSN is located at 122 West Second St. in Winona.

The Ribbon Warriors cancer support group meets at Callista Court, 1455 W. Broadway, every third Wednesday of the month at 5:30 p.m. We are all women who celebrate that we have had cancer and we are beating it. Ribbon Warriors is open to any woman who has been diagnosed with cancer and would like to come join us. If you have any questions you may call Diane Passehl at 507-452-2679.

Military Order of the Purple Heart meets the first Wednesday of the month at the American Legion, 302 E Sarnia St.  Winona, at 7:00 p.m.  If you are, or know a combat wounded veteran, come join us. Membership is free and we will keep you informed and help you navigate the Veterans Administration.
