Schmoker, John R. (12/08/2013)
Schmoker, age 60, died on Wednesday, December 4, 2013, at his home.

John was born on February 20, 1953, in Valley City, N.D., to Lester and Bonnie May (Clifford) Schmoker Sr. He graduated from Winona Senior High School in 1971 and received an Associate Degree in business and marketing from Winona Vocational Technical College in 1972. John put himself through school working at Colonel Sanders.

He was employed by Peerless Chain until 1981; he was a self-employed painter and also worked for Bernie’s Painting.

John married Mary Bonow in 1974; they were later divorced.

He enjoyed golfing, deer hunting, playing cards and the Winona Daily News Crossword. Mary was a witness to John’s hole-in-one at the Lewiston Country Club.

John is survived by children, Joe (Tina) Schmoker, Winona and Mandy Schmoker, Hokah; twin granddaughters, Sophia and Emma; brother, Lester (Earlene) Schmoker Jr., Kellogg; uncle, Bob Clifford; nephews, Jon (Laura) Schmoker and Matt (Jodie) Schmoker; long-time friends, Dan English, Bernie Kronebusch and the boys.

John faithfully visited his twin granddaughters every Saturday.

Memorial services will be held on Monday, December 9, 2013, at 3 p.m. at Martin-Myhre Funeral Chapel, with Revs. Paul Welke and Oliver Lindholm officiating.

Visitation will be from 1 to 3 p.m. on Monday at Martin-Myhre Funeral Home.

Honorary bearers will be Dan English, Bernie Kronebusch, Matt and Jon Schmoker, Corey Bayer and Terry Kramer.

“You have reached the King of Decorating, the Wizard of Wallpaper and the Pope of Paint all rolled up in one.”
